The Museum of Everything / Lynne Rae Perkins
Greenwillow
2021
When you feel that the world is too big and loud and busy and distracting, you can pretend that you’re in a museum. It’s quiet there, and you can wonder about everything: Is a rock in a puddle an island? Is a dry spot on the ground on a rainy day the shadow of a car that’s just driven off? There’s a museum for everything—for islands and shadows and clouds and trees, and so much more. - From Amazon
Museums - thinking about the world - wondering
I love that in the artists note Perkins writes about her process making all of the tiny dioramas for this book "it was the most fun ever" - cause I had the most fun ever inspecting them. I love books that take a sideways look at the world from a child's mind. As an adult I can sit with ideas like making a museum of hiding places, or questions like "are the spaces between street lights spaces without shadow or are they 100% shadow?" and go to a quiet place in my own brain to reflect in childlike wonder.
