Frog Went A-Courtin' / John Langstaff, Ill. Feodor Rojankovsky

  • Voyager Books

  • 1955

  • Illustrates the well known American Folk song about the courtship and marriage of the frog and the mouse. - from publisher

  • Would use for teaching folktales and songs. Could use in a music class for learning ballads and the history of American songs.

  • I like that this book has a "Story of this Story" note in the front matter. That makes it more valuable as a teaching tool in my mind. The illustrations are incredibly detailed and I like how each couplet of the song is paired with a vignette illustrating just that couplet. I was a little curious about why the illustrations alternate between soley green-tinted and more of a full color print. It might have been a cost of printing choice back in the 50's when this was originally printed, but I found the green tinted ones a little off putting, like much more the full color pages.
