  • Dot is the smallest person in her family and at school; even her name is small! People often mistake her for being younger than she is, but not when she tells them the square root of sixty-four is eight, nor when she orders from the grown-up menu at restaurants or checks out the hard books at the library. She may be small, but she's not little. - From Amazon

  • Bullying - standing up for others - size.

  • I like the representation of a blended family! I loved the voice of this story - Dot's INDIGNATION at being called little shines through in both the words and the wonderful illustrations. I love the spread where she stands up to the bully and her face is beet red - spreading to her ears - and there are little puffs of angry air coming from her nose. The librarian in this story DOES NOT pass the vibe check (also, copyrighting that idea - gonna start an instagram account with librarians in media that do or don't pass the vibe check) - not only is she grey headed with glasses (nothing wrong with that, but it is the old lady librarian stereotype) but she tells Dot the books are TOO BIG FOR HER? not cool library lady. Not cool. Anyhoo. Aside from that, I loved it.
