Freefall / David Wiesner
HarperCollins
1988
A young boy dreams of daring adventures in the company of imaginary creatures inspired by the things surrounding his bed.
Wordless books like Wiesner's are wonderful for letting kids use their own imaginations to tell what the story is based on what they see in pictures.
I LOVE WIESNER. The dreamscape of Freefall is a perfect setting for his imagination. I really enjoyed reading the pictures, and having to flip back and forth as something I hadn't noticed in the background of one scene came to the forefront on the very next page. I had fun studying the last page when the boy wakes up to see if I could find all the elements of his dream in his bedroom. Wiesner does a good job with a crazy dream with out making it uncanny or creepy.
