The Biggest Bear / Lynd Ward

  • Houghton Mifflin

  • 1952

  • Johnny Orchard brings home a playful bear cub that soon becomes huge and a nuisance to the neighbors. - From Amazon

  • Pioneer days, history of early America

  • Talk about mischief in children's books! The mishaps and adventures of Johnny raising this bear cub kept me turning the page. OF COURSE, the cub was gonna eat everything! OF COURSE, the villagers would get angry! But oh what fun it would be to bring home that cute little cub! I was concerned for what Johnny would have to do to "take care" of the grown bear... and relieved that it ended happily after all. The only thing I didn't like was the bears very uncanny face as it got older. It was just a tad creepy!
