When Sophie Gets Angry - Really, Really Angry… / Molly Bang

  • Blue Sky Press

  • 1999

  • When Sophie gets angry at her little sister, she escapes to a place where she can regulate her emotions.

  • Emotional intelligence. Dealing with big feelings, learning to self regulate.

  • The toy stealing situations that trigger Sophie's anger would be very familiar and relatable to the preschool crowd this is aimed at. I loved how Bang's illustration focus in on Sophie's face so children can mirror it and recognize her feelings in her expression. Her shadow raging on the wall echoes the turmoil inside of her. I loved how when she's been able to calm down and come back to safety and unity of her family and "everything is back together again" this unity is symbolized in the roundness of the table, the circle puzzle, the safe encircling arms of parents.
