1991
Marian called it Roxaboxen. There across the road, it looked like any rocky hill—nothing but sand and rocks, and some old wooden boxes. But it was a special place. And all children needed to go there was a long stick and a soaring imagination. - From Amazon
Imagination - social structures
I love how this story depicts the vastness, and yet ordinariness of a child's imagination. They create their own structures like that of the grown-up world, complete with mayors and traffic laws and jail and shops. Cooney's illustrations shine with the magic of ordinary things.
