A Chair for My Mother / Vera B. Williams
Greenwillow
1982
After their home is destroyed by a fire, Rosa, her mother, and grandmother save their coins to buy a really comfortable chair for all to enjoy. - From Amazon
Community, loss, saving for something special.
The most notable thing about these illustrations to me were the beautiful borders that coordinated with each scene- there was blue tiles around the Blue Tile Diner, and the table cloth pattern, and more beautiful things that tied in to the pictures. Just a small detail that goes a long, long way. I don't think I had ever read this book before now, but I really enjoyed this story of resilience and community coming together to help one of their own.
