The Adventures of Beekle / Dan Santat
Little Brown and Co.
2014
This magical story begins on an island far away where an imaginary friend is born. He patiently waits his turn to be chosen by a real child, but when he is overlooked time and again, he sets off on an incredible journey to the bustling city, where he finally meets his perfect match and--at long last--is given his special name: Beekle. - From Amazon
Imagination - Friendship
I really enjoy Santat's art and this particular book is no exception. I love Beekle's huggable design. I really like how he's the plainest of all the imaginary creatures we see in this story, which kind of makes him more of a blank canvas for children's to project their own imaginary friend on to. The "making friends" montage when Beekle and Alice meet was the cutest little spread. It was easy to put myself in to Alice's shoes and imagine how it might be to make friends.
