Hello Lighthouse / Sophie Blackall

  • Little Brown and Co.

  • 2018

  • Watch the days and seasons pass as the wind blows, the fog rolls in, and icebergs drift by. Outside, there is water all around. Inside, the daily life of a lighthouse keeper and his family unfolds as the keeper boils water for tea, lights the lamp's wick, and writes every detail in his logbook.- From Amazon.

  • Nautical life - lighthouses - family

  • I loved the endpapers in this book being stylized as the log book that the lightkeeper writes in everyday! I liked that the front endpaper showed bits of ephemera from the lighthouse life, like thread, and the picture of the keepers wife and a letter, and it was a wonderful use of space to use the back end for further information about lighthouses. The TALL orientation of this book was wonderful, standing out from the design of other picture books I've read of late because it emphasized the design of a lighttower. Blackall's art was just GORGEOUS and I sat soaking in every page, and then cried when the baby came. It was an emotional experience.
