I love the lilting rhyme of this book! I can't believe that for a Caldecott winner I've never seen this one before! Limited color palette (probably due to expensive print processes?) shows the age of the illustration, but the timing of the page turns to reveal each new friend the boy brings to the palace is perfect, and It was thrilling to see what new animal he would have!
