When Bear breaks a little girls kite, she thinks he's a "HORRIBLE BEAR!" -- until she makes a mistake of her own and learns the power of saying "I'm sorry" - From publisher
Apologizing - Regulating emotions
First off. Endpapers. Love that the front is the little girl's curly red mop and the back is the bear's furry ears. I love that the story starts before the title page even, as we see the girl's kite string snap as the kite approachs the cave in the mountain. The text and the pictures play off each other so well. There's just a *crunch* of the kite breaking rather than the text stating that explicitly. I could definitely identify with the bad mood the little girl gets in while she stomps away. This reminded me of When Sophie Gets Angry by Molly Bang. I love the moment of realization when the little girl accidentally rips her bunny's ear and says "i didn't mean to!" - and realizes that maybe bear didn't mean to either. What a good book for thinking through what's a purposeful harm done to others, and what's just an accident.
